Amarillo Gun Owners Announcements / AGO needs a new home
« on: August 28, 2018, 06:48:01 pm »
Hey guys and gals, most of you probably don't have a clue who I am anymore, but I'm Robbie and I started AGO years and years ago. I'm sure most of you know I haven't been active for quite some time. Traffic on AGO and places like it has slowed down significantly due to sites like Facebook and other social media outlets. Honestly, I've lost interest in it. I need to clean up my web host a little and AGO is one of the sites that needs to go. If you'd like to give it a new home, I am just looking to give it away. If you have web hosting and the knowhow to do it, I will give you the website, domain everything just as it is and you can run it however you see fit. Maybe you could revive it and bring some people back. If you'd like to do it, get in touch with me. I guess the best way would be to email me.

Let me know if you're interested.

Amarillo Gun Owners Announcements / Brand new host.
« on: May 22, 2013, 08:04:00 pm »
Hey all, a lot of people were complaining about the site being slow, and it was. Bad. So, I FINALLY got the host to talk to me, and of course all they wanted to do was sell more a more expensive package, so I told them to cram it with walnuts, and moved to another server. If the site is slow now, it's definitely on your end. This sucker is FAST now. Damn fast, real fast. And I think you'll all agree. It may cost a touch more per month, but it will be worth it.

Now, keep in mind that everything has been moved from one place to another. Paths are different and other things are too, so expect little bugs for the next couple of days. If you notice a bug, please tell me about it in this thread and I'll address is as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience and enjoy a new, faster AGO!  :rockout:

General Off-Topic / Pictures of Amarillo from the 60's
« on: April 03, 2013, 08:04:49 pm »
I found this on a website several years ago and ended up copying the entire website. It's kindof a cool trip down memory lane, even though I wasn't even alive then. It's still neat. Thought I'd upload it here to preserve and share it. Enjoy!

Camping / Willing to share your camping spots?
« on: January 18, 2013, 09:32:38 pm »
I actually can't believe I never added this forum before, especially because I love to camp. Would any of you be willing to share some of the best, most remote camping spots you know of within, say, about an 8 hour max drive from Amarillo? I'd like to plan a trip for this spring or summer but I'd like to go somewhere I've never been before.

I got to thinking about this quote today and it occurred to me that anyone I personally know that only owns one gun, really doesn't know how to use it at all. It sits on the night stand collecting dust. But then I get images in my head of the old farmer throwing his old bolt action rifle over his overalls and trotting out to the field and being able to use it better and more proficiently than anyone with a safe full of new, fancy guns. I was curious to know what yall think about this. Is it better to have a safe full of guns that you're just decent with, or would it be better to have a couple of guns that you are so good with it's almost like they are an extension of your arm?

I'd love to have one gun that could do it all, but since that magical weapon doesn't exist, I try to keep it as close to that as I can. Personally, I don't like having guns that don't have a specific use. I feel it's better to know the few guns you have inside and out rather than have a closet full of guns you never use and forget everything about. Although I do see where having a lot of guns would be beneficial because you'd know more about a variety of weapons instead of just a couple. Which would be really handy if you needed a gun but the only one you have isn't one you're familiar with. I guess that could happen regardless of how many guns you own. No one can own and know them all.

Anyway, I think it's an interesting conversation and I was wondering what yall thought about this topic.

Gun Shops & Ranges / AK Stocks

Anyone know of a place in town that sells AK stocks? And that's open on saturdays?

Saw it on i40 today with an AGO sticker on the back. First time I've seen one of the smaller ones on a car in town. I tried to get next to them and wave, but there was an 18 wheeler in the way lol. Who was it?

General Off-Topic / Moth infestation
« on: April 23, 2012, 09:36:53 pm »
Anyone else having this problem? They say it's bad in the rural area's, and they aren't kidding. This picture was taken to night on my porch and I have had a huge bug zapper going all night last night and it's been going for hours already tonight. I wouldn't mind it much if it was localized to the porch, but this is how it is all over my property. Pretty damn bad. Luckily, they say they can only live for 2-4 weeks, so they should be gone soon.

Has anyone found an OWB holster that will work with that setup? I'd prefer something with a strap or something to hold the gun in the holster aside from gravity :) any input would be appreciated.

Well, I did some trading, selling, buying and finally ended up with this collection. So far, this is what I'm most happy with. But knowing me, that could change at any minute.

Gun Shops & Ranges / Erwin pawn
« on: February 29, 2012, 11:17:29 pm »
I had an amazing experience at Erwin pawn again today. I was having a little bit of a crisis as far as choosing goes, and the folks at erwins stepped right in and gave, hands down the best customer service I may have ever seen. I probably held every gun in the shop, himhawed around trying to decide and nit picked more than I should have but never heard a single complaint or even felt like they'd rather just not have to mess with it.

In addition to that I got an amazing deal, as we've all come to know about erwins. Very friendly and helpful. I'm very pleased with my visit today and remember why they're my one stop shop. David, Hayden, dean, chris, penny, all of them are absolute great people to work with. I'll definately go back. Without a doubt.

Forum Feedback & Suggestions / New theme
« on: October 30, 2011, 04:05:27 pm »
I've whipped up a new theme, it's not quite finished yet, but what do yall think? Personally, I really don't like the blue one at all. I think this one is much more pleasing to the eye. Let me know if you like this one or the other one better.

This topic has been moved to Organize Meetings.

Sorry for not making the appropriate permission settings, but this forum is really only for staff members to post updates and news about the website itself.

Amarillo Gun Owners Announcements / New features as of 07/16/11
« on: July 16, 2011, 06:17:23 pm »
Ok guys and gals, here's the rundown of the new features.

First, I've installed quite a number of anti-spam and anti-bot tools so hopefully the bots and strange posts are over.

You can now set an auto reply on PM's for if you leave town, go on vacation, etc.

The ultimate profile mod isn't compatible with this version of the forum, so I couldn't reinstall it. But, you can still post comments on profiles.

There's a link at the top of the page called "Battle". It's just a gimpy little mod that someone wrote that lets users play a little role playing game if they get bored. Fighting mosnters, doing quests, etc. It might be fun, it might be boring. Who knows, we'll try it out.

There's also a feedback ranking on every member now. I installed it to see if maybe it would be a better way to keep track of buying/selling feedback. We'll see if it pans out.

On the first post in every thread, you can "like" the thread. I wanted to do it on every post, but that option isn't available. So if you like a thread, you can click the "like" button and it will give that user a like point that's displayed next to their name.

Every thread in the trading post section will be deleted automaticly if no reply is made within 30 days. That should help keep that area cleaned up.

The look of the website will change somewhat in the coming days. I don't particularly care for these colors. I'd like to make it look somewhat more like the old page did. So I'll be messing with that soon.

Anyway, enjoy!

Amarillo Gun Owners Announcements / HUGE update to the forum 07/11/11
« on: July 11, 2011, 10:07:55 pm »
So I updated the very out dated forum software to the latest version, and naturally, everything with the them went completely nuts. I will fix this problem, but things may look different, change, disappear, buttons may be out of place, or missing, etc. for a couple of days. I will get everything sorted out soon. This version of the software will give us some very, very handy and useful features, so please be patient.

Amarillo Gun Owners Announcements / Site outage 06/06/11
« on: June 06, 2011, 06:04:54 pm »
Well, that was cute. Somehow, and I still don't have any idea how, a pretty important file got completely emptied out. Lucky for me I keep a backup of such important files and was able to restore it. Kinda weird though. I'm going to have to look into it further and see why/how it was emptied. Sorry for the downtime, I didn't know anything about it until I got off of work today.

There's been talk about getting rid of the sold items forum in the trading post area. When I had the idea, I figured it'd be a good way for people to reference what guns are selling for what money, but I do understand that it's a searchable database of personal business. I don't much care one way or the other, so I'll let y'all decide.

Fishing / Panhandle Pondhoppers
« on: May 16, 2011, 07:18:11 pm »
I thought this would be a good sticky to have in this forum. Since I don't know all of the details about Panhandle Pondhoppers, I'll let Dale (fsufan333) take it from here.

General Off-Topic / Camping
« on: April 16, 2011, 08:35:06 am »
Anyone know of any really nice camping spots within about a 2 hour drive from here? Somewhere that's not really well known?

If you're having trouble with the correct time being displayed on either posts or the shoutbox, login and click on Profile at the top of the page. Find Look and Layout Preferences at the bottom, and click on "Auto Detect" next to Time Offset and all should be well. Enjoy!

Forum Feedback & Suggestions / Karma
« on: February 06, 2011, 07:47:39 pm »
I've gotten a couple of messages lately about the karma feature that's available in this forum software. It would allow you to "applaud" or "smite" someone based on what you think about them personally. I assume you can do rate them as many times as you'd like. Say you liked a post they made, you'd "applaud" them, if you didn't like it, you'd "smite" them. I could see this causing problems, but I'm also pretty sure it's anonymous. So this poll will be the official decision making poll. Whatever yall vote, will be the outcome. However, if the vote is yes, and it does start causing problems, I will disable it. Give your $0.02 on this one.
