Amarillo Gun Owners Announcements / AGO needs a new home
« on: August 28, 2018, 06:48:01 pm »
Hey guys and gals, most of you probably don't have a clue who I am anymore, but I'm Robbie and I started AGO years and years ago. I'm sure most of you know I haven't been active for quite some time. Traffic on AGO and places like it has slowed down significantly due to sites like Facebook and other social media outlets. Honestly, I've lost interest in it. I need to clean up my web host a little and AGO is one of the sites that needs to go. If you'd like to give it a new home, I am just looking to give it away. If you have web hosting and the knowhow to do it, I will give you the website, domain everything just as it is and you can run it however you see fit. Maybe you could revive it and bring some people back. If you'd like to do it, get in touch with me. I guess the best way would be to email me.

Let me know if you're interested.

Sorry guys. I was out of town and apparently the domain expired while I was gone. I renewed it so the site should be back soon.

Blades / Re: Auto Knife - Show pics of your carry knife
« on: August 21, 2013, 10:04:21 pm »
That benchmade is one damn fine knife, dale. I had one like it for a little while, but my edc knife is a cold steel voyager large. The old ones, not the new ones. It's a fantastic, very light weight knife, but there's one flaw in the design for me. It has brads holding it together rather than screws, so once they losen up, it's almost impossible to tighten everything back up, and after years of wear, it's getting a little loose feeling, and I've been thinking recently about replacing it. These are discontinued now, and I don't care for the new design, but the old design is a great one and if you're not too rough on them they'll last a really long time. The steel is VG1 or VG10 depending on the manufacturer, and I'm very very impressed with that steel. I also like spyderco's S30V, which is very similar. Anyway, that's what I carry, but probably not for much longer.

EDIT: Damn, I just noticed the title said auto knife. LOL. Sorry, this one isn't a switchblade, but it opens just as fast as one. :)

Blades / Re: Switchblades legal in Texas as of September 1st 2013
« on: August 19, 2013, 08:49:05 pm »
Will counties still be able to regulate them?

I know that some knives in Potter were legal, but illegal in Randall.

I'm not sure. What I do know is I'm getting one. :)

I agree with they idea they're attempting to convey, but it sounds like a really good way to end up in jail to me.

Amarillo Gun Owners Announcements / Brand new host.
« on: May 22, 2013, 08:04:00 pm »
Hey all, a lot of people were complaining about the site being slow, and it was. Bad. So, I FINALLY got the host to talk to me, and of course all they wanted to do was sell more a more expensive package, so I told them to cram it with walnuts, and moved to another server. If the site is slow now, it's definitely on your end. This sucker is FAST now. Damn fast, real fast. And I think you'll all agree. It may cost a touch more per month, but it will be worth it.

Now, keep in mind that everything has been moved from one place to another. Paths are different and other things are too, so expect little bugs for the next couple of days. If you notice a bug, please tell me about it in this thread and I'll address is as soon as I can. Thanks for your patience and enjoy a new, faster AGO!  :rockout:

You should be able to login. There's a problem with the email verification system. I've disabled it until I can fix it. That site doesn't run near as good as AGO yet. lol

General Off-Topic / Re: Dog Question
« on: May 02, 2013, 06:28:23 pm »
In reality, Texas Titan is quite right about one thing. Pitbulls, while intelligent, aren't actually ranked very intelligent at all. That's not to say they're all stupid, because they're not, but in the world of actually scientifically testing a dogs intelligence, they fall short as a breed. #82 in the list is the American Pitbull Terrier. That's not to say there aren't exceptions to every rule, but everyone thinks their favorite dog is the smartest, or that all dogs are super smart because they can learned a trick and can do it well. That door swings both ways too, though. Just because the only Pitbulls you've ever been around were dumb as a bag of hair, doesn't mean they all are. I've met several pits that seemed smart enough, but they are ranked pretty low on the list as far as intelligence goes. For those interested in the list, it was derived by Stanley Coren, author of numerous dog books. He's a psych professor at either UBC or Simon Fraser Univ., can't remember which. The book was done by interviewing people like vets, dog handlers/trainers, judges, as well as tests and techniques/tasks in determining dog intelligence difficulty to train, etc.

Here's the list.

Forest is correct about the cookie settings. Although if you didn't change them, I'm not sure I can offer you an explanation. I reviewed the error logs from today, and I did see where you were having trouble logging in. It tells me you were using an incorrect password. I also reviewed database logs and all of the other log files for the time it was happening and didn't find anything out of the ordinary. Gremlins in the engine room, I suppose. If you'd like me to reset your password to what you had before, just PM it to me and I'll do it asap.

It doesn't bother me either. The way I see it is AGO will always have it's core community, and the others who just come to "hock their crap" are only offering that community a chance to buy a gun. If there was a minimum post limit of 100 for the for sale section, you'd rarely see anything new there. Some people aren't interested in posting anything else, and that's fine. That's their choice. But for the people who do stick around, I don't see why that would bother you. You're getting a chance to buy a gun that you otherwise wouldn't even know was for sale. It's a real shame that the vendors don't post things in their sections. It'd be down right awesome to be able to browse the gun shops from the comfort of your living room.

At any rate, I don't think AGO's core group is going anywhere. The lack of a minimum post requirement might actually entice others to stick around. If I was looking to sell a gun, and I came to AGO and found a huge minimum post, I'd just move on to somewhere else. At least this way, they post it, and might stick around and might not. If they do, cool. If they don't, oh well.

I found this on a website several years ago and ended up copying the entire website. It's kindof a cool trip down memory lane, even though I wasn't even alive then. It's still neat. Thought I'd upload it here to preserve and share it. Enjoy!

They're all just spam bots. They all the time try to register and make profiles and posts advertising something. We have enough safe guards, for the time being at least, to keep them at bay. And yes, I do think guests should be able to view. I hate when I'm googling something and find what I need only to be confronted with a registration screen. I don't want to register. I just want to view. If it's privacy you're worried about, you're not any less safe letting guests view than you are not letting them. It takes just a few minutes to register, then they could see all the same information. Best thing to do is not to post sensitive information in an open forum if you don't want to world to see it.

Have you paid your "LNIB Glock 19 with 3-15 round mags and a LNIB XDs with an extra extended mag" AGO fee this month? No? Sounds like you can take care of that right now. :D What? No one told you of these new fee's?

I checked them out when I first heard about them, and for the most part, it's just a bunch of people trying to screw everyone as bad as they can, or people offering information that's completely and totally incorrect. And wow, don't piss one of the admin's off. Every single one that I've seen has a temper just as short as their... well you get the idea. I've since lost almost all interest in it. You're not missing much. AGO is still the best place I've found for guns, knowledge and friendly people in this entire region.
