long range shoot, anybody???
« on: August 04, 2013, 12:12:44 pm »
I would like to propose a little get together to do some long range shooting. Some folks like to but, have no place to go. Some folks would like to try it or need a little introduction to get started. Let's kick it around a little, I have a place and, I don't mind traveling. Any ideas???

I love how "long range shoot, any body" might suggest shooting a cadaver at a great distance.

Seriously though, wish I could make it.

Have been wanting to streach out longer, but don't have a place, so would be very interested.  And would love getting some advice/'instruction from the more experienced.

I was beginning to think there wasn't much interest but, it seems to be growing. I'll describe what I have access to and get the ball rolling. A few miles East of Pampa, a friend has a few sections of land. The back half is canyons and rough country. I have a bench set up at the head of the longest canyon and stationary targets at 625, 800, and 1125 yards from the bench. I also have various portable targets cut out of AR500 armor plate, the stationary targets are 28 inch discs cut out of 1 inch plate. I haven't been able to wreck any of them yet but, the 800 yard target does have some 50 cal slugs stuck in it. You can vary the yardage by shooting the stationary targets from different locations and, the portables can be set up anywhere that has a good backstop. It's not the Wittington Center but, it is handy.

That does sound great.  I'm still new to long range but haven't been able to find anything over 600 yds and would really like to try reaching out farther and learning more.

How does Sunday, 8/25 sound ? Mid-morning meet up and shoot into the afternoon. Provided it doesn't rain much more and things dry up a bit.

How about a few more. I haven't been out there in a few months so, I'm probably going to have to knock the weeds down so the stationary targets can be seen.  I'll work on that Sunday after noon and, get a mosquito report. My wife and kid are going to OKC that weekend,I'm going to be shooting so,y'all might as well join me.

There is room for more. Come on out, I'll have a Chronograph and other tools to help you develop a long range solution for a shot.

Thanks to everyone that came over, I hope you enjoyed yourselves. If you didn't make it, you missed a good range day, the wind wasn't too bad. I'll do it again in the near future.
