Best gun for CC
« on: February 15, 2009, 08:23:37 pm »
I am at odds on what gun to purchase for conceal carry. I would like a compact like a Taurus Millennium or a snub nose 38. I am open to other options though. What would ya'll suggest?

I'm getting me one of these for that exact reason in about a week.

If you can find one a small .380 is pretty sweet.  My daily carry is a Colt Commander and my BUG is a Micro Desert Eagle.

Never leave home without it.

You'll need the biggest caliber you can control and are comfortable carrying.  Shoot some of your choices and see how well they fit you.

I don't think anyone can say a particular gun is best, because people are so different.  There are advantages and disadvantages to revolvers and semi-autos.  They can often be resolved by your particular situation, if you answer enough questions.

I have five different carry guns that I carry depending on the weather, dress, etc.  I have a full-size 1911, a 3" 1911 (both are 45 ACP), a 32 H&R Smith & Wesson revolver, a M&P in 9mm, and a Kel-Tec P3AT.  The little guns get carried more in the summer as they are more concealable.  I only carry the full-size 1911 if I'm in a situation where I could reasonably expect trouble.  The M&P stays at work.

What do you enjoy shooting?  If it can be carried, that'd be the starting point for me.

1911's make good carry guns because of their slinderness. But damn they're heavy.

I agree; they are heavy but they also can get the job done! I carry my Kimber Ultra Covert 90% of the time. Heavy but not terribly bulky and plenty of pop! What would you rather? Wound them or terminate them? Iím not pulling the gun unless they are about to severely injure or kill someone, and in that situation Iím not taking ANY chances. If Texas passes Open Carry then the problems of bigger guns goes out the window in my opinion. Just get a better holster; which by the way anyone looking for the best CC holster should look at Cross Breed Holsters (www.crossbreedholsters.com).

I prefer something small and light weight to carry concealed. Even a wee .38 to the head is enough to stop a big tough guy, and I'm a good shot.  ;D

Although, I will admit if I could comfortably carry my full size 1911, I would.

My primary carry is my XD .40 3".  Just love the little lady.  I carry a Rossi 462 snub nose when I can't cover well with my shirt.  I also like the Baby Eagle but I'm looking to sell it to help pay for another XD.

I am partial to the j-frames for conceal carry, such as the S&W 642.  I can hardly notice mine in my pocket and the .38 cartridge is good enough for me.  I am now waiting to get my hands on the new Ruger LCR for carry purposes.

Have carried Colt Officer's Model 45 (a bit heavy at 25 ounces), Sig P228 in 9MM, and mostly Kahr PM40   all good carry guns

Either Glock 19 or 26 if it's jacket weather, sometimes a Taurus 905 9mm snub for just a quick trip somewhere, & a Kel-Tec P3AT that just flat disappears in shorts n tee shirt weather.  Do agree that if it wasn't so dang heavy it would be either STI or XD in .45.

Ring the bell, we've got a winner. :D

The 642 might be the best concealed carry piece.  EVER.

My vote is for the XD sub (3") .... very easy to carry, reliable, available in the 9mm or 40 S&W.   Great shooter!

I vote the Kahr P9.  Of course, it all depends on the size of your paws.  The guy I bought my P9 off had huge hands so he couldn't hold it well.  I have stubby fingers so it fits me perfectly.  Its extremely thin and has the iridium gun sights (15 year radioactive glow in the dark) that truly helps when aiming in a dark room.  Best of all, its a 9.  Anything less and you may have to shoot 2 to 3 times more to stop the bad guy...

I don't believe that there is one gun that will suit any one person for cc. I prefer the smaller glocks during summer and a full sized 1911 in the winter with the glock strapped on my boot.
However, I firmly believe that the HK p7m8 is one of the greatest guns designed for carry. The average thug is not going to know how to use it, and it is extremely safe for carry.
