Review: Damron's Pawn

This is part of a review of several local shops in the Panhandle Area.  It is a good, quick reference for others to determine the best shops in town and which ones to avoid.  The votes and opinions are those of forum members.  I left the option open for you to change your vote should you have a different outcome the next time you visit.  Please consider each of the points below when voting (in no particular order):

1. Customer Service
2. Knowledge
3. Pricing
4. Availability (hrs & location)

Sorry, guys, took me a bit to get this up as a review.  Here is a link to another thread about the shop:

I went in today to see if there was any interest in a gun I have.  The offer on my handgun was also good, not what I was looking for but better than anyone else. The guy I talked to was very nice and everyone that was in there seemed to be helpful.  They do have a quite a few used guns for sale and some new ones as well.  Pricing seemed fair, maybe not the best prices in town but better than most.

I stopped in today to take a look and they had some nice stuff.  Had lots of rifles of all kinds. Had some really nice revolvers as far as semi autos goes they had alot but I think they went the quantity over quality route because most where pretty beat up
Well boys I've got 4 bullets and there's 3 of y'all, who wants to get shot twice

I went in last week to check it out. For Amarillo, a good selection of well used handguns and a few long guns.
No "Milsurps" though :(.  The thing I will remember is that I was ignored by the staff working there, and they did not
seem to be real busy. I did shower that morning, and was not wearing my worst clothes.  No problem, If they don't have time for me, I don't have time for them.

I have experienced places like this as well, but I also don't like to go in a place and have a salesperson follow you around as you browse.  Personally, I would rather them let me look around, but if and when I need assistance, I want their full attention.

I've been in a few times. First time I was there, they had the very hands off aproach.
Other times they treated me like I was part owner. Really like the shop myself.
He has a revolving long gun display at one end of the counter that contains his personal
firearms that are for sale.
I will definitely go back.

They celebrated one year open today--

Went in just to look and ended up with a nice new pistol.
James worked the deal out where I was more more than happy. He made it work with what I brought in to trade.

Just to let everyone know. Skybux Gunsmithing is now inside of Damrons Pawn. I have had many great experiences with the Damron's. Selling and trading. Great deals and great prices.

In all fairness, I must retract my review of Damrons made last December.
I visited there recently and was welcomed and had a good conversation with the owner.
A whole lot better experience than before.
The only problem was that half his stock was out of town at the Lubbock and then Midland gun shows.
i will be going back.

My first trip into Damron's was similar to this.  A gentleman with a white beard said he was the owner.  Think his name was James worked hard to earn my business.  Haven't seen him in there since.  They told me he is an accountant so he works at that full time.  there is another guy in there with a brown beard I have talked to in other visits.  This guy does seem to have the sportsman's knowlege I like to find.  Seems like more of an AR spray and pray guy.  I am into long range accuracy.  All in all I like the place and have put it on my list with Erwins as a normal stop.  I still like Dean and David at Erwins better, but Damron's is a good place also.

I was always taught that if I didn't have anything nice to say then don't say anything at all.......so, all I'll say is that I won't go in there again (been twice and didn't like either trip).

I have purchased two guns there in the last two months.   One used Ruger 9MM and one new SA1911.   They had just got in a new shipment of guns when I went in to look around and left with the 1911.  I made a good deal on the Ruger trading in a shotgun and made a competitive deal on the 1911.   I was having trouble locating one prior to going in.   Overall, the staff was very helpful and showed me lots of guns including some of their personal guns.   Overall a good experience and I will check back with them from time to time.

As a shop owner/operator if sometimes you don't get waited on it's because ie. you look as if you don't want to be, we are watching someone else that may be shady, if you really wanted to spend money you would ask to see something. Alot of time is spent on people we think might buy something and don't. I personally don't like when I asked if I can help you, if i need help I'll ask for if. I've been in there and everything was great, wasn't bothered tell I showed interest. Will do business there agian and will refer as well.
