No, it is not illegal to carry inside a church according to the Texas Penal Code unless it is marked with a legal 30.06 sign or you have been given notice by the pastor.

This is confusing because of the way the Penal Code was amended. Section 46.035b(5) specifically says you cannot carry in a church; however, the code was amended with 46.035i that says only if a proper 30.06 sign is posted. 46.035i is soooo easy to overlook not just by CHL individuals but also by law enforcement.

And since we have the permission of the church to hold this clinic in their fellowship hall, then I am sure that they are not going to give us instructions otherwise.

Could be. Thanks for asking though, it's always good to have someone ask if there's a doubt. Make sure we all stay on the right side of the law!! That's why love my gun community friends, we can all talk and share and keep each other on the right track.

Yes the wording can be misleading but you can carry in a church and well as hospitals unless they have 30.06 signs properly posted

Well I have learned something today I also thought a place of worship in Texas was off limits also.
SHEEPLE: sheep like people, many of whom deny the existence of wolves, and vote to pull the teeth of the sheepdogs who protect the flock

We've been able to carry in churches since 1997.

The preacher at the church where Brett and I used to attend had a CHL and carried all the time.  :rockout:

Strangely enough nobody ever tried to sneak out of the services early...
Another day in this carnival of souls
Another night settles in as quickly as it goes
The memories are shadows, ink on the page
And I can't seem to find my way home

Any given Sunday at my church, there are at least 4 or 5 of us armed, including the pastor and the music director (me). Most of us went to our CHL class together.
